Frida Kahlo - family
Frida’s father
was a Jew of Hungarian-German orgins, he sailed from German to Mexico and he
changed his name to a more Spanish sounding name, Guillermo Kahlo, and trades
his Jewish religion for atheism. He started working at jewelry store in Mexico
City, that was owned by German immigrants. He married Maria Cardena, they had
three daughters, one of them dies, as well as Maria during the birth
of the third child.
Guillermo
started asking for Matilde Calderon’s hand, a coworker at the shop, and future
mother of Frida. In 1898 he married Matilde, a native born Mexican of
Spanish/Indian descent. Later he’s two daughters were send to be brought up in
a convent. Guillermo lerned photography from Matilde’s father, he started his
own buisiness, as a professional photographer. Magdalena Carmen Frieda Calderon
was born on July 6th in the ‘‘Blue House’’ in Coyoacan, Mexico. She was the
third of four daughters. After her father's death, Frida sufferes from depression which effected her health.
